The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) today announced that Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will officially welcome visitors on December 11, 2026, marking a historic milestone for the UAE and the global arts community.

As the largest Guggenheim museum and one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the 21st century, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will offer a bold new perspective on modern and contemporary art. Rooted in the cultural identity of the United Arab Emirates while embracing artistic voices from across the globe, the museum is designed to foster dialogue, inspire creativity, and connect people through the universal language of art.

Located in the heart of Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum joins an extraordinary constellation of world-class cultural institutions—including Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi—cementing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as one of the world’s foremost cultural destinations.

A New Vision for Modern and Contemporary Art

Rather than presenting art through a traditional chronological lens, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will explore the interconnected ideas, movements, and cultural exchanges that have shaped artistic practice since the 1960s.

Its growing collection highlights artists from West Asia, North Africa, South Asia, and beyond, creating conversations between regions, generations, and artistic traditions. Through paintings, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image, and digital media, visitors will experience art as a living dialogue that transcends geography and time.

Designed as a space for exploration, the museum encourages every visitor to create a personal journey through exhibitions organized around themes such as abstraction, storytelling, language, popular culture, and the relationship between people and place.

An Architectural Landmark

Designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is an architectural masterpiece inspired by the landscapes and traditions of the Gulf region.

With 11,600 square meters of indoor gallery space and 23,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition areas, the museum has been conceived to accommodate the scale, diversity, and experimental nature of contemporary artistic practice.
