"Yesterday's Today" exhibition by Behnam Kamrani at Artibition Gallery

ArtDayME: Behnam Kamrani's latest solo exhibition titled "Yesterday's Today" has been displayed at Artibition Gallery in Tehran.

"Yesterday's Today" is a look at representation and non-representation in contemporary art. Kamrani has separated photography and painting in this collection. Kamrani's works in this collection are based on old photos, but on the way and with a contemporary result, and are displayed alongside installations and videos.

Behnam Kamrani wrote in part of the statement of this exhibition: A question of painting or photography? A question of representation, history, margins, and framing. The "Yesterday's Today" series is beyond painting or appropriating family photographs. It's more about assessing the potential of painting and delving into the possibilities of presenting images.

It's about returning to seeing the already seen images of family albums, ours and others; it's the strength of a father in his prime, the beauty of an unknown woman lying in the grass, or a table set in the courtyard in summer and the clothes and people's poses in different places.

"In this series, a photo is neither diminished nor destroyed but intensified and perhaps has expanded into a "super-image." The nature of the image and the relationship between reality and the photograph, and going beyond it, is one of the goals of this series. The photo was merely an excuse; the point was to bring yesterday into today and paint it in the present moment." Kamrani wrote.

Behnam Kamrani, born in 1968 in Shiraz, is a painter, sculptor, curator, writer and art critic. Kamrani has a PhD in art research from Tehran Art University and an MA in painting from Tehran Art University. Kamrani has held numerous solo exhibitions and has participated in various international art fairs and biennials. He has also curated several exhibitions.

Art enthusiasts can visit this exhibition every day until Tuesday, May 7 from 11:00 to 20:00 and on Fridays from 16:00 to 20:00 at Artibition Gallery.
