Sheikh Salem opens 'Bridging Generations' exhibition to celebrate emirati calligraphy - Video

The exhibition, running until October 22, showcases the work of six Emirati calligraphers.

ArtDayME: Sheikh Salem Bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler's Office, inaugurated on Wednesday the exhibition “Bridging Generations” at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, organised by Sharjah Museums Authority in collaboration with the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation.

The exhibition, running until October 22, showcases the work of six Emirati calligraphers.

The event highlights the fusion of tradition and modern creativity, offering a platform for innovative calligraphy that balances heritage with contemporary expression. Sheikh Salem toured the exhibition, viewing works that incorporate classical Arabic, Kufic, Naskh, Thuluth, Diwani Jali, and mixed media, while also hearing from artists about their techniques and artistic journeys.

Sharjah Museums Authority seeks through this initiative to reaffirm the cultural significance of Arabic calligraphy and its role in Arab and Islamic civilisation. Alongside the displays, the programme includes workshops, lectures, and activities designed to deepen appreciation, foster community engagement, and encourage direct interaction with the art.
