Maad Gallery is currently presenting Majid Kamerani’s latest paintings in an exhibition titled “In Praise of Silence.”

These days, Maad Gallery is presenting the latest paintings by Majid Kamerani, who works under the artistic name “Lal Oghlu.”

“In Praise of Silence” is the contemplative title of this exhibition, which features 34 paintings.

All of the works have been created using oil paint: 14 large-scale works are painted on canvas, while 20 works are on cardboard.

Interestingly, the canvas works were created over the past two years.

Dr. Yasaman Ramezanmahi, an art professor, researcher, and artistic director of Maad Gallery, has written the exhibition statement. It reads in part:

“Majid Kamerani’s paintings are a mental exploration of the perception of a vast, ancient, and temple-like nature: a rocky and silent world that, at the boundary between the real and the ideal, calls upon the viewer to submit to a sublime sense of awe before existence. Scattered traces of human intervention—from the furrows of plowed fields to the poles of power lines—remind us of the transience of human life in the face of the primordial grandeur of existence.

Rather than creating the illusion of volume, Kamerani adopts a reductive approach. By scratching, stripping away layers, and carving grooves into the colored mass of the canvas, he recreates within stone the archetypal struggle of tool-making humanity. The enigmatic stillness of this rocky landscape, embodied in the figure of Mother Nature, becomes a linguistic sign in the painter’s signature, ‘Lal Oghlu’; a sign that, through representing a deeply rooted silence, transforms the act of painting into the sole possibility of recording one’s being within existence.”

About Majid Kamerani

Majid Kamerani was born on June 4, 1964, in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan Province. He chose the artistic name “Lal Oghlu” for himself and studied humanities.

He describes himself as a self-taught artist, saying that he learned painting by viewing the works of other artists, reading books on art, and visiting artists’ studios.

In addition to teaching privately at his own studio, Kamerani has taught as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of Babolsar University in Mazandaran Province over the past four years. This is his sixth solo exhibition.

Exhibition Details

Maad Gallery is presenting these works from September 25 to October 16, at No. 3, Kooh-Peykar Alley, Niyaz-Zadeh Street, Firouzkooh Street, Shahid Fallahi Street, Zafaraniyeh, Tehran.

The gallery is open every day except Saturdays, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on regular days and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fridays.
