"Labyrinths" exhibition by Aref El Rayess at Sfeir-Semler Gallery Beirut - Photos

ArtDayME: "Labyrinths" is a solo show with works by Aref El Rayess at Sfeir-Semler Gallery. The show presents a collection of vibrant paintings from 1999, initially displayed at the Unesco palace in Beirut but unseen since. The paintings, produced in the 1990s with inspiration from the psychedelic era of the 1960s, convey a seamless flow. Rejecting any one perspective and featuring organic shapes, the pieces transition between abstract landscapes and human shadows. Originally titled Labyrinths, Joseph Tarrab described them as intricate networks mirroring nature, science, and industry, illustrating mankind’s struggle with an identity crisis induced by globalization processes. On view until 16 March at Sfeir-Semler, Beirut.
