Two Weeks Left: Sharjah Biennial 16 Nears Its End – Watch the Video
Sharjah Biennial 16, titled to carry, presents a multivocal, open-ended exploration of what we hold, how we hold it, and the meanings we attach to these acts across time and place.
ArtDayME: Only two weeks remain until Sharjah Biennial 16 comes to a close. The event, which began on 6 February, will end on 15 June 2025.
Sharjah Biennial 16, titled to carry, presents a multivocal, open-ended exploration of what we hold, how we hold it, and the meanings we attach to these acts across time and place.
The curators reflect on ideas of migration, inheritance, and survival—questioning what we carry when we move, when we stay, and when we endure. The Biennial is framed as a space for collective sense-making and shared reflection amidst turbulent times.
This 16th edition proposes the Biennial as a threshold for experiments, collaboration, and storytelling. Projects embrace tenderness, rage, and ambiguity while engaging in diverse curatorial methods such as residencies, workshops, sonic experiences, and expanded publications. Works often co-exist in shared venues or take over entire spaces, forming a polyphonic landscape of narratives from multiple geographies and voices.
Curated by Alia Swastika, Amal Khalaf, Megan Tamati-Quennell, Natasha Ginwala and Zeynep Öz, Sharjah Biennial 16 features works by more than 190 participants, including over 200 new commissions, which will be presented across the Emirate of Sharjah.
