Mojdeh Art Gallery joins 70 galleries from 29 countries at VOLTA Basel.
ArtDayMe : Mojdeh Art Gallery, founded and directed by Mojdeh Tabatabaei, will present a new body of work by contemporary artist Azim Morakabatchi at the prestigious VOLTA Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland.
VOLTA Basel will run from June 18 to June 22, 2025, featuring 70 galleries from 29 countries, including France, Norway, South Africa, the United States, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and more.
Mojdeh Art Gallery will unveil Morakabatchi’s latest project titled “The Last 89 Seconds,”
a multifaceted collection consisting of a large-scale painting (200×120 cm), a mid-sized work (100×70 cm), four smaller pieces (30×40 cm each), an artist’s book, and a sculpture.
At the heart of the collection lies a video art piece titled “The Lost One,” which debuted in the summer of 2022 during Mirkebatchi’s first solo exhibition at Mojdeh Gallery.
In recent years, Morakabatchi’s works have garnered increasing attention, earning a place in notable collections such as Bank Saman and several prominent private collections. Among his most acclaimed exhibitions was the multimedia show “ Mirage,” his third solo presentation at Mojdeh Art Gallery, held in February 2025.
The exhibition, which captivated the Iranian art scene, featured a poem, a painting, a sculpture, and two artist’s books.
The Mirage series was priced at 1 billion toman (approximately USD 16,000 at the time) and acquired by a distinguished Iranian collector.
This marks Azim Morakabatchi’s international debut. Born in 1977 in Ardabil, Iran, he holds a bachelor’s degree in painting from the University of Science and Culture and is a full member of the Iranian Painters Association. His portfolio includes eight solo exhibitions and participation in over 35 group shows.
Mojdeh Art Gallery is proud to be the sole representative of Iran at this global event.
Established in 1999, Mojdeh Gallery has spent the past quarter-century collaborating with some of Iran’s most renowned artists, while also serving as a vital platform for emerging talents—Azim Morakabatchi being one of the latest examples.
The gallery has previously participated in international fairs such as WOP Art Lugano (Switzerland), Delhi Art Fair, New York Expo, Tbilisi Art Fair, and Beijing Art Fair, while also staging successful exhibitions in countries including the UAE, Qatar, Armenia, and more. Additionally, Mojdeh Gallery has organized impactful shows at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
For over two decades, the gallery has maintained a strong presence at leading international auctions—including Christie’s, Bonhams, and Sotheby’s—presenting both masterpieces and promising new voices in contemporary Iranian art.
