Hamidreza Shafiei on the Play of Form and Color in the Works of Farahnaz Hamedanizadeh

"Ms. Hamdani Zadeh’s works invite the viewer not merely to see colors, but to hear and feel them. In this collection, painting is not simply an act of illustration, but an experience of being—immersed in a vibrant, geometric moment."

ArtDayMe : Farahnaz Hamedanizadeh, an artist and educator who has been teaching the fundamentals of art and color theory for over three decades, recently participated in a joint project between Vesta Color and Mojdeh Gallery. As part of this collaboration, she has donated two of her works—created using Vesta gouache paints—to Vesta Color.

These two pieces, part of her “Play of Colors” series, are executed in gouache on paper, each measuring 30 × 30 cm.

Hamidreza Shafiei, Director of Vesta Color, expressed his appreciation for Hamedanizadeh’s participation in the project and remarked:

“To me, these two paintings present a fresh interpretation of the classical still life genre through a conceptual and abstract lens. With a formalist approach and the use of geometric structures, the works reimagine form and color in a balanced yet poetic space.”

He added: “In these pieces, Ms. Hamedanizadeh achieves a sense of calm by simplifying forms and eliminating realistic details. Elements such as vases, leaves, and fruit are broken down into geometric shapes, while the softness and movement of curving lines remain intact—evoking the flow of natural life within an architectural framework.”

Shafiei further noted: “One of the strongest aspects of these works is their rich yet harmonious color palette. The warm tones—yellow, orange, and red—interact beautifully with cool hues like blue, green, and turquoise to create a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere that is both serene and contemplative. The use of flat, unshaded color reflects the inherent opacity of gouache, lending a smooth and uniform texture to the images.”

He also commented on the composition: “Both pieces demonstrate a thoughtful balance of positive and negative space, creating a distinct sense of depth. The interplay of vertical and horizontal lines and color blocks recalls modern architecture and urban design. At the same time, the presence of lively, irregular plant forms introduces a tension between human order and natural spontaneity.”

In conclusion, Hamidreza Shafiei said: “In her ‘Play of Colors’ series, Hamedanizadeh offers a personal and contemporary perspective on the traditional still life. Rather than aiming for realistic depiction, she searches for an inner harmony—a visual language to express emotion. Her paintings invite viewers not merely to see color, but to hear and feel it. Here, painting becomes not just an image, but an experience of being in a vividly geometric moment."
