Desert Relics: Karim + Elias shape Sharjah’s heritage into twelve sand monuments
Twelve sand structures stand against the mountain backdrop, shaped to echo ancient vessels, necklaces, or stones once used in everyday life throughout earlier civilizations.
ArtDayME: In the deserts of Mleiha, a land installation titled The Desert Relics rises—its forms inspired by the archaeological objects long associated with this historic site.
Twelve sand structures stand against the mountain backdrop, shaped to echo ancient vessels, necklaces, or stones once used in everyday life throughout earlier civilizations.
Each was crafted from local desert sand—a direct reference to the very material that has preserved the site's memory for centuries.
Created by Karim Tamerji and Elias El Hage, the work is part of a broader project that highlights Mleiha’s cultural and natural heritage—one of many narratives Sharjah continues to explore from multiple perspectives.
