Lawrie Shabibi presents the group exhibition “By the Movement of All Things”

The exhibition invites viewers to engage actively, using art as a vehicle for encounter and learning.

ArtDayME: Lawrie Shabibi presents “By the Movement of All Things”, a group exhibition curated by Hamzeh Alfarahneh, featuring works by Igshaan Adams, Hamra Abbas, Diana Al-Hadid, James Webb, Bronwyn Katz, Timo Nasseri, and Moshekwa Langa.

The exhibition continues Alfarahneh’s ongoing inquiry into Global Majority abstraction, tracing resonances and affinities between South African and Middle Eastern non-figurative practices, and exploring how memory, lineage, and lived experience are preserved and transmitted through abstraction.

Organized through what the curator terms “structures of knowledge,” the exhibition foregrounds gesture, movement, and vibration as conduits for embodied forms of knowing. In this framework, abstraction is presented not as the absence of representation, but as a site where ancestral wisdom, lived experience, and non-institutional knowledge can surface.

The exhibition invites viewers to engage actively, using art as a vehicle for encounter and learning. Its title, drawn from Aimé Césaire’s “Notebook of a Return to My Native Land”, emphasizes active participation, encouraging audiences to reflect on their own experiences rather than solely projecting meaning onto the works.

The exhibition runs until 6 January 2026.
