ArtDayME: Safeya Binzagr was a trailblazer of Saudi modernism and is among the Kingdom’s most celebrated female artists.

‘Coffee Shop in Madina Road’ (1968) is a rare early example of her work and depicts a group of Bedouin travelers in the desert, stopping at a café to drink tea and chat.

She rarely sold or gifted unique painted works such as this one. “My work does not intend to bring back the past, but to treasure it, so that future generations may take pleasure in and benefit from it.”

After being shown at the Cultural Investment Conference in Riyadh this week, it will be offered by Sotheby’s in Riyadh in January 2026.
