Hamidreza Shafiei and a Dream-Colored World in Elham Azimi’s Painting

At a time when the Middle East is more than ever raising its voice about the importance of water and the environment, this painting by Elham Azimi depicts a pleasant dream.

ArtDayMe : Elham Azimi, an artist who has studied painting academically from diploma to master’s degree and has been professionally pursuing painting for a decade, has recently participated in the joint project of Vesta Color and Mojdeh Gallery by contributing a work created with Vesta colors.

This untitled piece, measuring 100 x 100 cm, was created in 2024 (1403) using Vesta acrylic paint on canvas.

Hamidreza Shafiei, director of Vesta Color, expressing his pleasure that this beautiful and eye-catching work has been created using Vesta paint and thanking the distinguished artist Elham Azimi for participating in the project, stated:

“Ms. Azimi’s work is a bold reflection of the connection between imagination and color — a painting in which nature is not a reflection of external reality, but rather an inner and emotional image of the artist’s personal world. In this work, tall trees with tilted trunks and exaggerated, vibrant leaves create a dreamlike and timeless space in the viewer’s mind.”

This art director added: “The composition of the work has been designed with a fluid rhythm and dynamic beat. The contrast between the vertical lines of the trunks and the horizontal movement of the colorful patches — which resemble clouds more than leaves — forms a compelling, eye-catching, and balanced structure.”

Shafiei said: “By setting aside the logic of realistic representation, Elham Azimi has simplified the forms and liberated the colors to speak directly to the viewer’s emotions.”

The director of Vesta Color noted: "The color palette of the work is filled with brilliant greens, vibrant pinks, fiery oranges, and deep blues — colors that serve not to describe but to carry emotion, passion, and energy. In this field of color, earth and sky are indistinguishable, and everything merges into a unified space of movement and color. The choice of white background visible at the top and bottom of the painting emphasizes the placelessness, timelessness, and dreamlike quality of the image. The atmosphere is so cheerful and rainbow-like, it seems as if these trees have risen above the clouds, watching an ideal world — perhaps a paradise free of any pollution.”

Shafiei continued: “The acrylic technique has given the painting a thick and impasto texture that reveals the movement of the brush [or palette knife] in every part of the surface. This physicality of color gives the work a tangible and sensory presence that engages the viewer not only through sight but also through a physical experience.”

He said: “From a stylistic reading, this work can be analyzed in connection with the trend of colorist expressionism — an approach in which color acts as the primary element of expression, and the inner emotions of the artist outweigh realistic representation. Elham Azimi’s work is an invitation to enter a world that escapes the rules of visual logic and instead, through the passion of color and the freedom of form, invites the viewer to observe an internal, mental, and poetic nature.

This painting is not merely an image of a forest, but a visual expression of the artist’s emotions and aesthetic perceptions of existence — a world in which trees, rooted in imagination, grow in a field of dreams.”

Hamidreza Shafiei concluded: “Water, trees, and green earth are the most essential pillars of life, and the presence of artworks that warn about the necessity and value of environmental preservation is one of the best ways to promote cultural awareness. That is why, in today’s world, such approaches are highly valued — and this work by Elham Azimi conveys that message in the most nostalgic way.”
